Fire testing instruments, specified by the standard you test to

Heat release, smoke, flammability, reaction-to-fire and fire resistance instruments for classification and development laboratories - configured per standard, documented per instrument.

Motis builds fire testing instruments for laboratories that have to defend their numbers: classification bodies, manufacturers' test labs and research institutes. The range covers the instruments behind the world's main reaction-to-fire and fire resistance regimes - from the bench-scale cone calorimeter to room-scale installations such as the single burning item apparatus and the Steiner tunnel.

Instrument families

Evidence first: numbers from the instruments themselves

Fire testing is a measurement business, so this site leads with measurement. The cone calorimeter's radiant cone delivers 0 to 100 kW/m² from a 5000 W heater. The non-combustibility furnace holds 750 ± 5 °C. The SBI test room measures 3 m by 3 m with an exhaust capacity of 0.50 to 0.65 m³/s. These are the documented figures for the instruments on the product pages, where you will also find the standard each instrument is built to and what its test reports.

How laboratories buy from Motis

Fire test instruments are configured per standard, per specimen and per building. The working route is: identify the standard your reports must cite, open the instrument page, and send an inquiry with the standard, your materials and your laboratory conditions. You receive the datasheet for the matching configuration and a quotation. Calibration, maintenance and training services for installed instruments are covered on the services page.

Standards first: not sure which instrument your specification needs? The equipment selection guide and the standards library map standards to instruments before you spend anything.
